As I posted on my Facebook page, I had a busy time in September with our KHS65 60th class reunion weekend which had been long in the planning, lots of correspondence and talk w/ high school and life long friends, lots of memories, some sad, some wonderful...a lot of varying emotions racing round lately! Then a bit after the reunion weekend I received an email from, Jerra, the widow of our KHS65 classmate and musician/poet laureate Alan Yount letting me know she was sending me something. Alan and I shared a fondness for Dave Sanborn's music and our memories of knowing him, and in Alan's case working with him and Jack Toman in their musical endeavors. Alan also knew I am not a poetess or even much of a poetry fan...but I learned to really enjoy HIS poetry, much more to my liking. After a bit of a glitch at the PO, I retrieved the box that Jerra sent. I was SO moved, I couldn't get it off my mind for days, except when I was worrying about Jack wandering around the east in that car!!! [My dear sweet hubby took the train to PA to fetch his newly purchased 1949 MG TD right-hand drive convertible and drove it 1269 miles home alone with no gps, a flip phone, a map and a helluva lot of gumption.] Dear sweet Alan left me his framed Dave Sanborn signed "Heart to Heart" album case. It's gorgeous, in a perfect brass-colored frame which now hangs in a prominent place in our home. I will always think of Alan's love for music, his talent, his poetry and what a wonderful person, husband, father, son, brother and friend he was. If you've never gone to Jerry Jazz Musician website and checked out Alan's poetry, & wonderful jazz music do go so you can see the tribute to Alan there too. There is a post where you can actually hear Alan reading one of his poems, and you can read lots of his poetry right here, just type his name into the search box, lots of posts about him will appear and you can click on the JJM posts. Alan was a Veteran too; he and Jack Toman played together in the Army Band. I welcome any comments here about memories of Alan - his band played at many KHS dances, memories many of us share I'm sure, I'd love to hear yours! Click the small comments tab right under this post to leave a message! Alan's obituary is here, choose the obituaries tab to read his and many others of our friends. I know Alan rests in peace, his wife and children miss him so much. Rest easy friend.....
