 In my never-ending quest to clean up my computer and catch up with myself I came across a folder of pictures I haven't gotten posted.

From the Athletic Hall of Fame 2024 Celebration - KHS65 Star Bill Pape, Phil Mills KHS'66, Coach Kent Overby and invincible Rod Bruckdorfer - what a great weekend and honor that was!!!

 

The famous runner Gary Schmidt in his young championship days - an amazing photo! Another in the Athletic HOF AND he's in the Alumni Hall of Fame too for his stellar career as lawyer, judge and philanthropist.

 One of the several track trophies in the gallery at KHS in the gym - our class is so well represented!

 

 This photo shows how our athletes are pictured right below the ceiling in the gallery at the gym, where the statues, plaques, etc. are beautifully housed.  I took this photo for Karen Schurig, the plaque right above the W in the Kirkwood reflection is her brother Roger, KHS60. Photoing that day was difficult because of all the people in the space and the reflections, but something is better than nothing I suppose. And of course there is sweet Nelson W's brother Don too.

 

 And a closeup, somewhere I have OUR fellows, I'll find them, but you can see better how they look and again, a photo for our dear late Nelson Wainwright who was alive when I took this one for him and Karen.

 

Earlier this year Dr. E. Jane Via our classmate of course, and my good pal, was here to inter the ashes of her late brother. We had an opportunity to do some Kirkwood "touring" which of course includes the National Museum of Transportation, which happens to be very near the house where she lived in our later KHS years so of course  we visited that.  Dave Beardsley was volunteering that day at the museum so we had a nice visit with him AND the cars and something else fun, see below.   

 

The Museum of Transportation contains a rebuilt portion of this famous Route 66/Kirkwood site and I have pix of it, but I recently found this post card in my collection so I'm putting it here for fun as Jane, Dave and I talked about it.  I love going to the Museum for so many reasons, but seeing the actual glass block windows and the tile construction is just always a treat....to say nothing of the fun of remembering the many stories, true or fiction, that we've heard over the decades about Coral Courts. I've never succeeded in getting anyone to admit they were ever a guest there!  Were YOU? I did receive a fun gift not long ago, from Judge Schmidt - two reproduction guest towels from guess where, yes here!  An no, don't read anything into that please...he knows I love the story and the building!  I'm saving them to use sometime when just the right Kirkwood guest is using my powder room!

Judy Matthew Gibson - Another of our wonderful girls gone way too soon.

 Here is the obituary information for Judy, courtesy of Bopp Funeral Home in Kirkwood. I believe some of her good friends from KHS65 will be at our picnic in October.  May she be resting in peace and love.

Judith Ann Gibson Obituary

Judith Gibson (Matthew), 79, of Kirkwood, Missouri, passed away on August 1, 2026. Surrounded by loved ones. Judy was born in Kirksville, Missouri, to the late Wallace Richard (Dick) and Dorothy (Riley) Matthew.  Judy graduated from Kirkwood High School and then obtained her cosmetology license.  Judy married her cherished husband of 53 years, Tom Gibson, on May 5, 1973. 

She is survived by her husband Tom and sisters Sandra (Denny) Gentsch, Pam Theel, Patty (Ken) Meyer, and Angela (Jeff) Kern, as well as sister-in-law Cayolyn Sexton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy's life will be celebrated at a memorial Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Bopp Chapel, 10-11 am.  A private Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery.

Donations can be made to Mercy Health Foundation - de Greeff Hospice House.

ALWAYS GREAT FOOD AND EVEN BETTER VISITING WITH FRIENDS - A few out of towners have already said they'll be here.... and a surprise classmate from afar whom we haven't seen in awhile... 

There will be good eats, KFC and Schnucks pinwheels, water, soda, chips and a sweet treat.  Feel free to bring your own picnic meal if you wish...or something you want to share.  But we do usually have left over food since we really like to talk and sometimes that wins out over eating!
