We seem to all be suffering a common problem these days, WHERE DID OUR LIVES GO? Our brains seem to still be 18, but our bodies are talking a different language. Sarah Orne Jewett puts it much more eloquently than do I:

“Neither of my companions was troubled by her burden of years. I hoped in my heart that I might be like them as I lived on into age, and then smiled to think that I too was no longer very young. So we always keep the same hearts, though our outer framework fails and shows the touch of time.”

Farewell to another classmate, Maxine Galvin Filley, RN superb nurse leaves us too early.

Thank you to Linda and Louise Moore for alerting me to the announcement of the recent death of our classmate Maxine Galvin Filley, RN.  She was a stellar registered nurse, spending most of her career at St. Joseph Hospital right in our hometown, Kirkwood.  Please read her obituary here:

https://www.timesnewspapers.com/webster-kirkwoodtimes/maxine-marie-filley-nee-galvin/article_33bef756-3b01-11eb-a032-436f5e36a86a.html [Knowing this link will eventually expire, I have copied the obituary below 10/25/25.]

to learn about what a super-star she was in her chosen field.  I don't believe she attended any of our reunions but I do know she lived right in Kirkwood for many years, if not all her life.

We extend our sincerest condolences to her family.

Filley, Maxine Marie (nee Galvin) age 73, passed away on Dec. 3, 2020. She was the beloved wife of Gregory R. Filley for 52 years; mother of Gina (Tom) Martin, Kimberly Filley and Teresa (Tif) Filley; sister of Mary Watkins and the late Charles Warner; sister-in-law of David (Elaine) Filley and Donna Filley; and dear aunt and friend to many.

Maxine graduated in 1965 from Kirkwood High School. She attended the Jewish School of Nursing and graduated in 1968 as a registered nurse.  During her career she worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood and within six months, she became the head nurse of the med/surg unit. She then moved to orthopedics as the head nurse until she was encouraged to set up the skilled nursing unit. After retiring from St. Joseph Hospital, she became the first school nurse of Christ Community Lutheran School until her retirement in 2014.

A memorial service  is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 18, at 4 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 505 S. Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Homes for our Troops at hfotusa.org, or Wounded Warriors at woundedwarriorproject.org
