We seem to all be suffering a common problem these days, WHERE DID OUR LIVES GO? Our brains seem to still be 18, but our bodies are talking a different language. Sarah Orne Jewett puts it much more eloquently than do I:

“Neither of my companions was troubled by her burden of years. I hoped in my heart that I might be like them as I lived on into age, and then smiled to think that I too was no longer very young. So we always keep the same hearts, though our outer framework fails and shows the touch of time.”

Ginger Glandon Nugent, IBM Engineer, wife, mom and grandmother has left us

As a result of our 60th Reunion mailings we have learned, thank you Sue Bumann Ehlers, that Ginger passed away suddenly last April.  I knew she lived in Vestal and we knew she worked for IBM, but did not realize she had passed away.  Please see her obituary; another smart, valuable member of society nurtured in our environment.  I am sure she is resting in peace and love.

Virginia Ann Nugent (nee Glandon,) better known simply as "Ginger" to her family and friends, passed away unexpectedly at age 77 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Shell Point, Ft. Myers, FL. Beloved wife for 54 years of George Douglas Nugent, she was born on January 30, 1947, to Clare Elliott and Joyce Lucille Glandon (nee Kovanda), in Highland, IL. Ginger graduated as salutatorian from Kirkwood High School (MO) and went on to graduate magna cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Northwestern University (IL) in 1969 where she was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and Delta Gamma sorority. Ginger then went on to receive her master’s degree in engineering science with a perfect 4.0 GPA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY) in 1994.

Ginger met George in January 1970 at IBM in Endicott, NY; George told his colleague “I’m going to marry her,” and true to his word, they married five months later on May 23, 1970. Ginger was a devoted mother of two to Georgeanna (“Georgie”) Marie and Douglas Elliott Nugent, and dedicated her life to George and her children. They were all active members of the Vestal (NY) United Methodist Church. Both Ginger and George worked their entire careers at IBM prior to retiring in 2003. Ginger was a dedicated substitute teacher in Broome County, NY after her retirement from IBM. Ginger and George reveled in their weekends and summers on Tremont Island, in Gananoque, Ontario Canada with dear friends they have considered family since 1973. Together they enjoyed camping, skiing, swimming, and boating the canal systems and seaways with their grandchildren, Ripley and Maginn Lynch.

Ginger is survived by her devoted husband George Douglas Nugent: her two loving children Georgeanna (“Georgie”) Marie Nugent (Eric) of Saratoga Springs, NY and Douglas Elliott Nugent (Anna) of Murfreesboro, TN; her grandchildren Ripley (22) and Maginn (19) Lynch and Salvatore Nugent (4); her two siblings Robert Glandon (Victoria, deceased) of Lake George, NY and Judith McLachlin (Robert, deceased) of Chesterfield, MO; and very special friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ginger was predeceased by her parents Clare Elliott and Joyce Lucille Glandon (Shell Point, Fort Myers, FL) and several loving friends and family members.

A celebration of Ginger’s life will be held at the Chianti Il Ristorante, 18 Division Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 on Sunday, May 26th from 1 to 4:00 pm; the eulogy will begin at 3pm. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Ginger’s name can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 (www.heart.org) or the Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga County, 185 Court St., Binghamton, NY 13901 (www.broometiogaliteracy.org).

To share a photo or story, leave a legacy or to offer condolences to the family at this difficult time, please visit Ginger's memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign her guestbook.

William Nelson Wainwright 1947 - 2025

Our classmate Nelson succumbed to leukemia at Siteman Cancer Center on April 21st.  Nelson will be missed by our classmate, his long time wife, Leslie Bright, and several other family members, including his older brother Don ( Mary Pillsbury) and sister Royal, KHS64.  Nelson was an A student (graduating in the upper 10% of our class) and athlete, plus being an all 'round great guy!  Well, nevermind that once, at Nipher I think, sitting behind me in class, tugged a bit on my long hair, whispering that if those holes in the desktops had ink bottles as they were designed to hold, he could dip my hair in the ink - his wink made me believe he would probably have done it too!!!  When I learn of a proper obituary, I'll publish it here. Rest in peace and love Nelson.  Another of the good guys gone way too soon.

CLASSMATE PAM DALTON PASSES AWAY IN TEXAS

Pam Dalton (Ed Sneath) died in hospital on April 3rd.  She had spent time on the phone with Darcie Suits a day or two before, but Darcie reported that Pam was not doing well.  There is not yet an obituary, however if and when we receive it I will post.  Pam and I were neighbors while at KHS and we car-pooled some our Junior and Senior years.  We had a fun visit together, along with Karen Schurig, not tooo many years ago when I had an opportunity to visit them, and some others in the Dallas area, when there for a visit to a group I was the leader of at the time.  We did lots of reminiscing about our Kirkwood girlhoods.  Pam was smart and fun, and had a good sense of herself, even back then.  I know she will be missed. 4/25/25.  Thanks to Darcie, here is Pam's obituary.  Click once on the hotlink and you should get the FAG direct link to her obituary with photo.

What a shame that we are losing so many of our valuable friends too soon.  We have been very fortunate to have been such a useful, meaningful group of people in the world in which we found ourselves.  Losing our members is just that more difficult...may she be resting in peace and love.
