POET LAUREATE ALAN YOUNT HAS BEEN AT WORK - CHECK IT OUT!

Alan has been busy, and I've been delinquent in not getting his work posted!  Here is a great one from this past Spring:

NIGHT  TRAIN

                   For Oscar Peterson, And All Of His Piano Jazz.

 we keep thinking

        of the train

on that album cover.

it’s the blue shades of jazz

and the train engine in the picture,

 and oscar’s sound

that keeps it speeding all along.

 … at night:

oscar on piano:

da dit … da dit …da dit

just like

rail tracks clacking.

 in a dream, years ago

the same train still rolls up

to the station.

we both met then, and both of us said

“it will

all work out all right.”

 oscar’s still playing

that song over & over

now recorded

in my memory.

  recently,

now in another dream

                   the train still rolls up,

 among the hissing of steam

and some other train sounds.

 there’s still some voice that says:

 “the train

may not come

when you want it to …”

 “but it’s always

          right on time.”

May 12 I had some great good luck and published two poems at once on Jerry Jazz Musician.  “For The First  Time, I Heard David Sanborn Play Jazz” was one which I had previously published in WestWard Quarterly in the spring of 2019 and you will find on this blog if you scroll down to that time-frame.  

The second one is “Night Train.” which is my latest poem written and published. What a blast to send it to Joe Maita, Publisher and Editor, and two days later he writes and says he will publish it. This is my 22^nd poem published with JJM and my 143^rd poem published overall.

I think his poetry is great, especially since he is so successfully combining his literary and musical talents!  Wouldn't it be fun to be in a room where we could sit and enjoy his trumpet to the sounds of a great reader reciting his poems?  Keep up the great work Alan!  You make KHS65 look sooo good! lvr
